This NLP technique teaches you how to become instantly relaxed:
First I'd like to explain a few things. In NLP, we use anchors to bring about
certain feelings. An anchor is a trigger that leads to a certain feeling as
fully and completely as possible (with all the senses).
To help you understand more, when you hear an old song, which you used to hear
at a certain time or place, the song brings back feelings and memories of that
time, this is because it was associated with that time; you will feel, see and
hear (in your mind's eye) the things you experienced at that time, the song is
the trigger, it is the anchor of those particular feelings. An anchor can be
visual, auditory, kinesthetic (feeling), olfactory (smell) or gustatory (taste),
another example of an anchor is the smell of something which triggers certain
feelings, or a picture of a vacation, etc. we are surrounded by anchors on a
daily basis, without our conscious awareness. With NLP, we can make use of
anchors to bring about feelings intentionally.
Now for the technique of instant relaxation:
1- Get comfortable, close your eyes, take in a deep breath and release it
slowly, 3 times. On each exhale, release any tension you have.
2- Then scan your body for any tension that may be left. If there is any tension
left, keep breathing deeply and slowly until all the tension is gone.
3- Now remember a time when you were very very relaxed, maybe you were
meditating, or relaxing on the seashore or in the mountains.
4- Imagine being back in the experience. It is important that you RELIVE it
fully, that is see what you saw, hear what you heard and feel those feelings
again. Where are those feelings in your body? how does it feel?
5- When the feeling of relaxation is at its peak, anchor this relaxed feeling,
i.e. gently squeeze your thumb and finger together for a few moments (this
finger squeeze will become the anchor that triggers this feeling).
6- Now think of a situation in the future where you would like to have this
feeling. Trigger your anchor (i.e. squeeze your thumb and finger) and then
imagine the situation with that relaxation feeling.
7- You can also use this anchor whenever you want to feel more relaxed by
squeezing your trigger.
P.S: It is advisable to repeat steps 1 to 5 to establish the anchor and
reinforce it. Then test your anchor, i.e. squeeze your thumb and finger, this by
itself should automatically make you feel relaxed.
The above technique is one of many NLP techniques to access and install
resourceful and empowering states. NLP is also effective in getting rid of
negative emotions and reactions including fears and phobias!
